2026 Harvest Kickoff: Bright Whites & Bubbly Bases

August 27, 2026

The 2026 growing season has dramatically pushed the pace of typical harvest timing across the Northern Hemisphere, setting new records for spring heat in North America and summer heat in Europe. Many regions are projected to begin harvest three to five weeks earlier than normal, with moderate fruit yields, fantastic acidity, and optimal ripeness.

Our expert grower partners are well trained and have become accustomed to navigating extended heat events, variable precipitation and water availability, and the timing of vineyard management practices to ensure consistent quality year after year.

As many wineries transition to developing sparkling wine programs, grapes intended for sparkling production are harvested even earlier than those used for traditional still white wines. Chardonnay, aromatic white varieties, and Pinot Noir were some of the first grapes to come off the vine inJuly, picked at higher acidity and freshness to create perfectly balanced base wines for future bubbly beverages.

August has paved the way for Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, and other white wine varieties that require more maturation, along with red grapes destined for Rosé production. Early red varieties like Pinot Noir and Zinfandel are nearly ready, while late-season Bordeaux varieties will likely be fully harvested by early October.

Vintage 2026 continues to reinforce a key wine industry ethos: adaptation.

Staying flexible with the conditions of Mother Nature and evolving commercial markets allows producers to respond to change while always maintaining the highest levels of quality.
