With September underway, wineries across key regions are turning their attention to red grapes. While white varietals kick off the season, the rhythm shifts quickly as Pinot Noir, Merlot, and other reds reach full maturity.
This phase of harvest demands close observation and quick decisions. Heat spikes, cool nights, and changing weather patterns all impact when red grapes achieve their ideal balance of flavor, sugar, and acidity. Growers are walking rows daily tasting berries, monitoring tannin development, and coordinating picks with precision.
As the season moves deeper into September and beyond, bolder varietals like Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petite Sirah will take the spotlight. With longer hang time comes greater risk and greater potential. The goal: crafting intensely flavorful wines that reflect the story of the vintage.
At NexTerra, we continue to work hand-in-hand with our grower partners, harvesting at just the right moment to support custom blends and private label programs defined by quality, character, and intent.
There’s still a long way to go, but the story of vintage 2025 continues to be written each day of the harvest period. Read more about our white grape harvest and stay tuned for updates as the season progresses.
