Recently ranked as the 4th largest economy in the world, California continues to earn its place as one of the most dynamic and diverse winegrowing regions in the U.S., and a cornerstone of NexTerra’s custom wine programs.
Each year, our winemaking and sourcing teams travel across the Golden State to scout vineyards, assess growing conditions, meet with longtime partners, and check in on wines at various stages of maturation.
A Landscape Built for Complexity
California’s winegrowing regions fall into two primary climate bands, coastal and interior, shaped by the state’s north–south mountain ranges. Within these vertical corridors, a mosaic of mountains, valleys, and foothills gives rise to countless microclimates and terrain-driven expressions.
With over 100 grape varietals cultivated statewide, NexTerra actively works with more than 25 different varieties across its programs. For a closer look at one of our sourcing visits and harvest snapshots, check out this post.
From Grape to Glass, Across Every Microclimate
At NexTerra, we build a strategic sourcing network that spans both coastal and inland regions—curating a wide range of flavor profiles to match our clients’ vision. From the warm, sun-soaked plains yielding vibrant Moscato and bold Zinfandel to the cooler, coastal zones producing elegant Pinot Noir and crisp Chardonnay, our partners are experts in extracting the best from their unique growing environments.
We’re proud to craft distinctive wines for distinctive brands—bringing custom concepts to life with unmatched sourcing flexibility and regional know-how.
